I was at an all candidates debate the other day and our incumbent Conservative MP Randy Kamp was asked about the rising gas prices and whether a Conservative government would put a cap on gas prices, his answer was of course NO if you regulate gas where do you stop, do you regulate everything.
The Cons are all or nothing kind of guys.
It made me think of how many people do all of us know that regularly drive to the USA to fill up their gas tanks with cheap American gas made from Canadian oil.
We have a Prime Minister that can hardly wait for oil to be $200 dollars a barrel, and still Canada an oil exporting nations citizens pay more for our gas than the people that we export it to.
I for one am fed up with the constant mismanagement, environmental recklessness and outright gouging of the Canadian consumer, other oil exporting nations pay pennies for a gallon of gas.
If any political party in the federal election wants my vote all they would have to do is to nationalize the Canadian oil and gas industry which after all belongs to every Canadian in the first place.
I have to question what other than environmental nightmares do the people of Canada get out of the exploitation of this valuable nonrenewable Canadian natural resource.
Do oil companies pay a lot of taxes? I seriously doubt it, they pay none in the USA. Do these multinational companies really have a vested interest in protecting Canada’s environment?
The people of Canada should be the major beneficiary of this national treasure but all I see as a Canadian is $1.41 a litre gasoline, shoddy, haphazard environmental controls and a proposed supertanker route 98-158 miles inland up the fourth most dangerous waterway in the world to Kitimat, that can only lead to a world class disaster.
Time for a do-over.
